PASA would like to make its position clear:
PASA does not approve of, facilitate or assist with the sale or sourcing of bird or parrot eggs.
Please do not contact PASA, its committee members or its social-media pages by WhatsApp, Messenger or private message asking where eggs can be bought, who has eggs available, or requesting contact details of breeders selling eggs. These enquiries will not be entertained.
The fact that the sale of eggs is not automatically illegal in every circumstance in South Africa should not be interpreted as an endorsement of the practice by PASA.
The legality of possessing, selling, transporting, importing or exporting eggs depends on several factors, including the species involved, CITES status and applicable national and provincial conservation legislation and permit requirements.
Where CITES-listed species are involved, additional requirements may apply. Provincial legislation may also regulate the possession, breeding, sale and transport of protected or non-domesticated species and their eggs.
PASA members remain responsible for ensuring that every transaction involving birds or eggs complies with all applicable legislation and permit conditions.
PASA will not provide contacts, advertise availability, connect buyers and sellers, or act as an intermediary for people seeking eggs.
Where there is uncertainty regarding the legality of a proposed transaction, members should contact the relevant conservation authority before proceeding.
PASA also reminds members that involvement in illegal trade may constitute a breach of the PASA Code of Good Conduct and may result in disciplinary action.
Our position is simple:
Do not contact PASA to source eggs.
Know the law. Keep proper records. Maintain traceability.
Responsible aviculture protects the future of our hobby.
