Protecting Birds Through Better Biosecurity
The Parrot Association of Southern Africa (PASA) is delighted to welcome MicroSafety Solutions (Pty) Ltd as an exhibitor at the PASA Expo on Friday, 4 September 2026, at Umfula Lodge, Parys.
For bird breeders, exhibitors and parrot owners, maintaining a clean and properly disinfected environment is an essential part of responsible aviculture. Cages, aviaries, equipment, surfaces and other frequently handled areas can all play a role in the movement of microorganisms between birds.

At the PASA Expo, MicroSafety Solutions will showcase Virukill Avian®, a broad-spectrum disinfectant specifically registered for veterinary disinfection involving caged birds. The product is registered as G3525 and contains Polydimethylammonium Chloride as its active ingredient.
Broad-Spectrum Avian Disinfection
Virukill Avian has been developed for the disinfection of surfaces against a broad range of microorganisms affecting caged birds, including viruses, bacteria, fungi, Mycoplasma, yeasts and algae.
It has also been specifically tested against difficult-to-kill viruses such as circovirus, the family of viruses to which BFDV belongs.
Its registered applications also include the disinfection of drinking water for birds and air within aviaries.
Virukill Avian can be used across a wide range of avicultural applications, including:
- Aviary and cage surfaces
- Bird housing and animal quarters
- Equipment, utensils and instruments
- Hatchery areas and equipment
- Water systems
- General surface disinfection
Virukill Avian is highly stable, and its unique residual effect means that it continues working against microorganisms for several days after disinfection. This longer-lasting protection is one of the features that sets Virukill Avian apart, helping to provide continued protection following the initial disinfectant treatment.
The product performs across a wide pH range and is non-corrosive to equipment and cages. It can be applied by washing, soaking or spraying, making it a versatile addition to an effective avian biosecurity programme.

Good bird health involves more than nutrition and veterinary care. Effective biosecurity also relies on reducing the opportunities for microorganisms to move between birds, people, equipment and environments.
