PASA responsible aviculture is built on a simple belief: the future of aviculture will be stronger when we work together.
PASA represents people who keep, breed and care for birds. However, our purpose goes further than any individual breeder, club or association.
Southern African aviculture consists of many organisations, clubs, species groups and individuals. Each has its own history, identity and important role to play, and PASA respects that.
Our aim is not to replace other associations or expect everyone to belong to one organisation. Instead, we want to create opportunities for the wider avicultural community to cooperate on issues that affect all of us.

Trust
Building confidence between breeders, clubs, associations, authorities and the wider public is important for the future of aviculture.
Transparency
Open communication and accountability are equally important. Therefore, we believe people should understand what we do, why we do it and what we hope to achieve.
Traceability
Good identification and record keeping support responsible breeding and legitimate trade. In addition, better traceability helps strengthen the long-term credibility of aviculture.
Welfare
Above all, the birds in our care must remain at the centre of responsible aviculture.
Responsibility
Every breeder, keeper, club and association has a role to play. This includes following relevant legislation and protecting the reputation of aviculture.
Cooperation
No single breeder, club or association can address every challenge facing aviculture. By working together, however, we can achieve far more.

PASA welcomes cooperation with all responsible avicultural associations and clubs.
Importantly, working together does not mean giving up our individual identities.
A budgie club can remain a budgie club, while a parrot association remains a parrot association. Likewise, regional and specialist organisations can continue doing the work they were established to do.
Unity does not require uniformity.
Instead, unity means recognising where our interests overlap and being prepared to stand together when it matters.
Together, we can share knowledge, support better bird welfare and encourage responsible breeding and trading. At the same time, stronger cooperation can improve communication throughout our community.
When legislation or other developments affect aviculture, a connected community is also better placed to stay informed and make its voice heard.

There will always be different opinions within aviculture. After all, we are a large and diverse community.
Those differences do not have to divide us.
Ultimately, our common responsibility towards our birds and the future of aviculture is greater than the things that separate us.
