PASA at CITES CoP20 marks an important moment for South African aviculture. The Parrot Breeders Association of Southern Africa (PASA) will represent all South African parrot breeders at the 20th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to CITES. The conference will take place from 24 November to 5 December 2025 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. This is the first time a CITES CoP will be held in Central Asia.
What Is CITES CoP20?
CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) is the global agreement that regulates international wildlife trade. PASA attends CITES CoP20 to protect and promote responsible aviculture. We support science-based decisions that help both breeders and conservation.
Our goal is to ensure that international regulations continue to support:
legal captive breeding,
traceable systems,
sustainable avicultural practices, and
to prevent/curb the illegal trade in parrots.

Why PASA Is Representing South Africa
PVSA has appointed Guy van Zyl and Antonie Meiring to represent all South African parrot breeders at CoP20. Their role includes:
