Two Important Decisions Approved at the PASA AGM

Two important decisions approved at the PASA AGM

Please take note of the following decisions approved at the Annual General Meeting:

1. Increase in annual membership fees

Annual membership fees for members of affiliated clubs and directly affiliated members will increase by R50 each. The new fees, including the approved increase, are:

  • Membership through an affiliated club: R500 per year, plus a once-off registration fee of R50. The annual PASA fee is payable through the club and excludes the club’s own membership fees.
  • Direct individual membership: R850 per year, payable directly to PASA, plus a once-off registration fee of R50.

Complete the application form for membership here.

Members in both categories can order rings directly from the PASA office.

2. Junior membership

Junior members aged 16 and under can affiliate directly with PASA at R200 per year.

They may also join a club of their choice if they wish.

What does PASA/PVSA membership offer you?

As a member, you help sustain an association that represents parrot breeders, provides practical services and works for the future of responsible aviculture.

Representation when decisions affect your birds and your livelihood

PASA provides a collective voice on matters affecting the keeping, breeding and lawful trade of parrots. Its objectives include engaging with authorities and challenging restrictions that unfairly affect members. This gives breeders an organised way to raise concerns that would be difficult to address individually.

A voice in international discussions

PASA’s published representation initiatives include CITES CoP20 and the CITES Animals Committee’s AC34 meeting. These forums consider matters that can affect international parrot trade and captive breeding. Membership helps support the work needed to bring avicultural knowledge and breeders’ concerns into those discussions.

Help understanding permits and compliance

PASA publishes permit information and compliance notices, helping breeders understand requirements and where to seek assistance. For rose-ringed parakeets, PASA specifically offers advice and assistance with the permit process. Any association permit arrangement remains subject to a valid permit and compliance with its conditions.

A lifelong breeder code and access to rings

Members receive a unique lifelong breeder code for identifying birds they have bred and can order identification rings directly from the PASA office. PASA also lists member-exclusive products on its membership page.

Education you can use in your aviary

PASA organises educational opportunities such as webinars and Expo presentations. Published examples include breeding and handrearing education, practical incubation sessions and opportunities to engage with scientific and regulatory specialists. These activities help breeders learn, ask questions and share experience.

Research and information that support better decisions

Website articles and avian research briefs provide information on developments affecting aviculture. Research briefs explain practical implications and study limitations, helping breeders understand what new findings may mean for their birds.

Connections with the wider avicultural community

Affiliated clubs and PASA events create opportunities to meet fellow breeders, veterinarians, researchers, suppliers and conservation role players. These relationships support the exchange of knowledge and practical experience.

Participation in the association’s direction

PASA’s AGM is its policy-making authority. Members participate through the association’s representative structures, according to its constitution, helping shape priorities and decisions.

Support for the next generation

The newly approved junior membership rate of R200 per year for members aged 16 and under makes direct affiliation more affordable for young enthusiasts. Juniors may also join a club of their choice.

Some PASA education and representation benefits extend to the wider birdkeeping community. Membership fees help sustain that work, alongside the services provided directly to members.
