Invitation to Participate

Dear Participant,

You are invited to take part in a research study titled “Public Perceptions and Distribution of Non-Native Rose-Ringed Parakeets (Psittacula krameri) in Gauteng Province, South Africa.”

About the Research Team

Dr Tinyiko Shivambu from the University of South Africa (UNISA), College of Environmental and Agricultural Sciences, Department of Environmental Sciences, is leading this study. Researchers from UNISA, Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), and the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) are collaborating on the project.

Who Can Participate?

This study focuses on adults aged 18 years and older who live in urban or peri-urban areas of Gauteng Province. These are areas where rose-ringed parakeets have been observed.

Purpose of the Study

The study aims to identify where rose-ringed parakeets occur in Gauteng. In addition, it seeks to understand how members of the public perceive these birds.
Ultimately, the findings will assist researchers and conservation authorities. They will use the results to better understand the species’ presence in urban environments and to explore possible management options.
